Bannerghatta national park is one of the popular tourist attractionsin the state of Karnataka in India. This tourist site is located 22kms to the south of the bengaluru city, capital of Karnataka. Bannerghattais a perfect place for a family outing while the city also holds numerous national monuments.Bannerghatta is spread out vastly covering 104.27 sq kms. The part of was set up in 1971. It is the house of many different species of animals and birds. Located in a hilly place contributes ahigher advantage to maintain the park with its rich natural reserves. Anekal Range of the Bangalore Forest Division is the site where Bannerghatta is set up which covers tenreserve forests.
There are so many attractions within the national park that includesas zoo, an Aquarium, Snake Park, children’spark, Prehistoric Animals Park, Crocodile Farm and museum. There are a variety of safari’s that attract visitors, tiger and lion safaris. Private vehicles are not allowed inside the zoo because few years back a kid became a prey to
tiger due to the carelessness of family member. Since then the officials have introduced mini vans to ensure safety for the visitors.
Another major attraction of the park is the Butterfly Park spread over 7.5 acres. About 20 species of butterfly is carefully conserved under a polycarbonate circular roof measuring 1000 sq meter. Thebutterfly park also collectively holds a conservatory, museum and an audio – visual room.
The numerous animal species include spotted deer elephant, gaur,jackal, fox, wild pig, leopard, sloth, sambar,chital,barking deer, common langur, bonnet macaque, porcupine and the hare. The deciduous teak forest holds rich fauna which includes Anogeissus latifolia,Terminalia tomentosa, neem, T. Arjuna, Vitex altissima, Santalum album,
Jalari, sandal wood, tamarind, Emblica officinalis, Grewia Tilaefolia,Wrightia tinctoria, Shorea talura.
Variety of other attractions of this park is trekking through thisdeciduous forest. The Suvarnamukhi stream that flows through the park adds to the beauty of the Zoological Park. The park charges different ticket fares during the weekdays and weekends for the safaris. Cameras are allowed on paying additional charges.
